Pure Barre

Low Impact Burner

Pure Barre is a full body workout that is low impact using 1-2 lb weights, a ball, resistance band and or yourself! The ambiance is bright lights in a room full of mirrors and everyone has a pair of sticky socks that matches their outfit.

What to expect at Pure Barre

  1. Arrive Early! This is essential, when your at Pure Barre you want to make sure you get a good spot. The classes are often times booked to capacity and you have to limit range of motion to avoid hitting someone because you are squeezed in. You want to get there early, grab the equiptment and park your booty in your spot until class comes.
  2. BYOSS: Bring Your Own Sticky Socks: If by chance you forgot thats ok, they sell them there but I am not about to spend $30 on a pair of socks. If you’re wondering where to get sticky socks, I would turn to Amazon!
  3. Equipment: Grab an extra ball (you may need it for support) and grab two pairs of dumbbells (2lbs & 3lbs). Its always better to have an not need than vice versa!
  4. Counting and Rhythm:  The Pure Barre playlist has a unique rhythm which is coordinated with the movements throughout class. Everyone moves in sync so its important to focus on not only the rhythm of the beat for guidance but also the instructors counting for when to stop. This is the best way not to be the odd ball thats a count off for every exercise. I say this with love, since when I first tried a class I was the person with their arms up while the rest had them down. (a tad embarassing lol)

Class Formats: It’s great to switch it up a bit!

  • Classic: This one is my go-to. I don’t know if it’s the perfect seat burn or the muscle-shaking moves that get me every time, but I always leave feeling like I’ve done something good for my body. It’s like that sweet spot between challenging and just enough of a “I’m dying, but in a good way” workout. The seat burn in Classic is real, and it’s my favorite part of the class.
  • Define: Some days, I want more resistance. Enter Define. This class ups the ante by adding extra resistance for those of us who love a good burn and don’t mind a little extra challenge. The added intensity is amazing for muscle growth, and trust me, you’ll feel it the next day.
  • Align: A class to work on flexibility and balance- to be frank, I don’t take this class often. That should change though, I grunt when i get up and my bones are cracky sounding. Perhaps taking it down a notch and working on mobility would do me some good!
  • Empower: Think cardio without the impact, it’s a faster-paced class that gets you sweaty. I haven’t taken this class a lot, probably because I always pick my two favorites- define and classic. However, don’t let that stop you- get your empower on!

There’s a class for literally every mood, so I never feel like I’m stuck with the same thing. But I will say, some classes can be a little less intense than others, which is fine if you’re feeling a bit tired, but don’t expect to walk out always drenched in sweat.

One Small Complaint-

  1. It maybe a personal preference but I WISH the lights were dimmed. It just feels too bright in there for me and I don’t like it.
  2. I hate having to reserve my spot, I wish upon booking each person has a designated spot to avoid that awkward walk through for a space. In theory, they have space for everyone in the class but it sure feels awkward having to ask for someone to skooch over.
  3. Lastly, I wish the movements were held for longer periods of time. Personally, I feel like my muscles begin to burn and then 3,2,1 we are done with that move. It’s possible I have a stronger tolerance or maybe I am used to more intense workouts. Don’t let this deter you. I am just curious if anyone else feels the same.

In summary, if you’re a low-impact girly, Pure Barre is for you!

At the end of the day, Pure Barre is a solid choice for anyone who wants a low-impact, highly effective workout with a mix of intensity and recovery. It’s a bit pricey, but sometimes it can be found on Classpass, which is great if you want to switch it up.
